Teachers are invited for an exclusive preview of the Toronto Holocaust Museum’s launch for Childhood Interrupted, a new program and resource for school groups in Grades 6-8.  Childhood Interrupted explores the experiences of Holocaust survivor Yael Spier Cohen as a young girl growing up in Germany. Students follow Yael’s survival, immigration and eventual settlement in Canada, learning about the Holocaust through the lens of one survivor’s personal story. Featuring testimony, primary sources and questions that provoke critical thinking, this program provides an entry point for young learners to discover the history of the Holocaust in age-appropriate ways, and meets the learning objectives for the new Ontario Social Studies curriculum for Grade 6.Teachers will have the opportunity to preview this new school program including a screening of the Museum’s exclusive film, Childhood Interrupted, followed by the tablet Storyliner self-guided experience for students in our galleries. In our Learning Lab, teachers will be introduced to our museum artifact activity for students and teacher resources.
